Take A Spin At Classic Windmill Farm | Via: KARE11 News
In some places (like this amazing park in Wilson, North Carolina), they’re called whirly-gigs. In others, they’re simply windmills—long the backdrop of an agricultural landscape. In Minnesota, they’re the hallmark of the land where dairy farms give way to the prairie. And one intrepid, creative, and determined farmer is hoping to give them a new life for all to see.
Riding the Waves…In Landlocked Denver? | Via: Westworld
River surfing may be the next most popular sport you’ve never heard of. It’s making waves across the Front Range of Colorado as skiers, skaters, and ‘boarders look to spend their summer carving time on the rip-roaring waves in anticipation of winter. Just listen to this rider’s experience:
“When the water levels are right, it’s just like a powder day: It’s on,” Ginn says. “When they first built River Run Park, I went and looked at it and I was hooked. I immediately started trying jumps and spins and other tricks, basically skateboarding on the river. Everyone brings a different style to it, and it’s the most welcoming community I’ve ever been a part of. It’s so much fun.”
Best Ice Cream in the United States | Via: Outside
One of the best parts about traveling is ice cream hour—in the afternoon, after dinner, or even before dinner. Each region has family-run, multi-generational shops that people flock to. Outside did a solid job curating a list of the best ice cream shops in the nation. Here is a taste of a few of the best ones:
Sweet Cow, Colorado Front Range
Kopp’s, Milwaukee County area
Sundae School, Massachusetts
The Parlour, North Carolina
Best Breweries & Taprooms in the Northeast | Via: Outside
Ok, so Outside just didn’t provide some solid ice cream recs, they also recently put out a list of their favorite breweries in the Northeast. Now, this place is tapped full of amazing beers—including the recently named best beer in the world. This list is also full of some small-time, charming and off-the-beaten path picks that make for an excellent road trip. Perhaps, one this Labor Day weekend? May we recommend what we think is the coolest brewery on their list: Throwback— tiny and not very well-known in North Hampton, New Hampshire. It’s a heavenly place to visit in the summer or early fall. The brewery sources more than 70 percent of its beer ingredients, like fruit and hops, locally, including from the farm on which it’s located. Batches are small in quantity, seasonal in availability, and experimental in flavor, and although you can find them in some stores around the region or buy them to go from the brewery, they’re best enjoyed on the farm itself.
